From the Trenches

As a cybersecurity practitioner, I’m always on high alert for potential threats that could disrupt our online services. Two recent stories caught my attention because they highlight critical vulnerabilities that could be exploited by malicious actors.

The first story from CISA flags two actively exploited critical flaws in Collabora Online and Arista VeloCloud (Internet). This is a wake-up call for organizations that use these products, as the exploits could allow attackers to gain unauthorized access to sensitive data or disrupt services. As a practitioner, I would advise my clients to patch these vulnerabilities immediately and implement additional security controls to prevent similar breaches.

The second story from CISA also caught my attention because it highlights the importance of keeping software up-to-date, even after patches have been applied. The fact that BlackX UEFI Bootkit can bypass Secure Boot on patched Windows systems with missing revocations is a serious concern. It shows that attackers are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their tactics and can find ways to exploit vulnerabilities even when we think we’ve secured our systems.

πŸ”§ Patch Priority: Collabora Online due to the high risk of data breaches if exploited by malicious actors.
