From the Trenches

As a cybersecurity practitioner, I’ve seen firsthand how critical vulnerabilities can be left unpatched, putting entire organizations at risk. The latest report from Infosecurity Magazine is a stark reminder of this reality - billion-dollar companies are twice as likely to leave critical vulnerabilities unpatched, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation. This is a wake-up call for any organization that thinks they’re above the fray when it comes to cybersecurity.

The good news is that some companies are taking proactive steps to address these vulnerabilities. For example, Microsoft has just fixed an exploited Mark of the Web bypass vulnerability (CVE-2026-96951), which was previously being used by attackers to gain access to systems. This highlights the importance of keeping software up to date and patching vulnerabilities as soon as they’re available.

Another area that’s gaining attention is the threat of AI-powered attacks, particularly in the context of supply chain attacks. Chainguard has introduced libraries for Go and .NET to protect organizations from these types of attacks, which can be devastating if left unchecked. The fact that nine out of ten security leaders say AI attacks have changed their job more than anything in a decade is a stark reminder of just how quickly the threat landscape is evolving.

🔧 Patch Priority: Microsoft has fixed CVE-2026-96951, an exploited Mark of the Web bypass vulnerability that requires immediate attention.
