From the Trenches

The latest crop of vulnerabilities is making me want to pull my hair out. Microsoft just released a record 974 patches for Windows alone, which is staggering. Two of those are zero-days that were already exploited in the wild - talk about a wake-up call.

But what really caught my attention was the N-able N-central Pre-Auth RCE flaw that’s been exploited in the wild. As a practitioner, I’ve seen this type of vulnerability play out all too often, and it’s a reminder that even with the best security measures in place, there’s always room for improvement. The fact that this vulnerability was already being used by attackers before Microsoft even released its patches is a sobering thought.

And then there’s the SAP OVERPASS kernel vulnerability - maximum severity, anyone? This one’s got all the hallmarks of a serious problem that needs to be addressed ASAP. I’d say it’s high time for organizations to take a closer look at their SAP systems and patch this vulnerability as soon as possible.
